Recapping the New York Fashion Week Spring 2014

New York Fashion Week has come and gone again, and this time around, as they highlighted spring 2014 looks up and down the runway, Tory Burch and others led the charge with new and inspired looks showcased on the most beautiful models in the world.

Tory Burch Spring/Summer 2014

Tory Burch was one who had been inspired by the 1969 French film La Piscine, and had her models decked out in canvas dresses bejeweled in gorgeous gems, holding caned backpacks, and rocking white lattice cut-out totes. Capped by a row of cypress trees along the swirly catwalk, models pranced and walked down the runway like they were at the pool or beach, as Burch came through with swirling elegance in her pieces and more.

Tory Burch wasn’t the only one who went with a specific theme for New York Fashion Week, though; Badgley Mischka went for a little bit of glamour mixed with a little bit of youth in their collection during the event. Influenced by the women of the 1920s and 1930s French Riviera, Badgley Mischka rocked girls showing off skin but also keeping it elegant and classy with sweaters over the top and just enough modesty to separate day and night styles.

Vera Wang Spring/Summer 2014

Mainstay Vera Wang went traditional with a bit of a new age idea, too, mixing textiles like mesh – the kind you’d see on a football player – with black silk dresses, and gorgeous black pencil skirts. Her collection showed off as both artful and chancy, with a clearly athletic inspiration to her clothes and all of that which she brought to the table.

With her sports-inspired theme, it’s no wonder so many models looked so athletic, healthy, and gorgeous in her fanciful duds, as they rocked them down the catwalk like athletes prancing into a game – stylistically and beautifully, of course.

Still other designers, from Jason Wu, to Victoria Beckham, to Alexander Wang were well represented on the catwalk and all came with unique showings when it got right down to showing off what they were made of, and what they brought to New York Fashion Week. Wang, in particular, went with a 90s street wear look, with logo-mania complete and cool in his show.

Beckham had some 90s-inspired duds, too, with geometric and bold shapes a plenty, and what she called the “merging of girl and boy sensibilities” to highlight her unique and androgynous fashion look in the process.

As much as ever, New York Fashion Week did not disappoint as the stars were out and the fashion was top-notch. From Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, to Kanye West, Kerry Washington, Courtney Love, and Tyson Chandler, the stars sat in the front row and the designers rocked their shows, with New York Fashion Week coming to a close with huge performances and amazing showings from the top designers in the world.
